Can I Bring My Pet to a Retirement Village?
What You Need to Know About Pet-Friendly Living at Qestral
For many retirees, pets are more than companions—they're family. Whether it’s a gentle old Labrador, a curious cat, or a lively budgie, these beloved animals bring joy, routine, and comfort to our everyday lives. So it’s no wonder one of the most frequently asked questions is: “Can I bring my pet with me when I move into a retirement village?”
The answer, increasingly, is yes. Modern retirement villages are evolving to reflect the lifestyles and values of today’s retirees—supporting not just independence and wellbeing, but also the meaningful relationships we hold dear, including those with our furry (or feathered) friends.
A Growing Trend: Pets and Retirement Living
As retirement communities shift from institutional to inspirational, policies have become more flexible and resident-focused. Many villages now welcome pets under certain conditions, recognising the benefits they bring—from improving mental health to encouraging daily movement and social interaction.
However, every community also has a responsibility to maintain a peaceful, safe environment for all residents. This is why most villages, including Qestral, balance pet-friendly policies with guidelines that ensure everyone can feel at home—pet owners and non-pet owners alike.
Qestral’s Approach: Welcoming Pets, Respecting Community
At Qestral, we celebrate the companionship that pets provide. Our villages are designed to support vibrant, fulfilling lifestyles—so it only makes sense that your pet can be part of that picture. We’re proud to offer a pet-friendly policy, carefully crafted to support harmony, safety, and wellbeing for all residents.
A Personalised Process
Bringing your pet starts with a simple written application, coordinated through our friendly Sales Team. The request is reviewed by the Village Manager, ensuring the fit is right for both the resident and the wider community. Once approved, a copy of the agreement is kept on file, with another provided to you for your records.
Guidelines with Heart
Our policy is guided by a principle of fairness—for pet owners, neighbours, and the wider community. To help everyone enjoy village life to the fullest:
- Approval applies to your current pet, with any future additions requiring a new request.
- We keep a Pet Register for transparency, updated annually and within 48 hours of your move-in.
- Pets should be cared for consistently and not left alone for long periods.
- Dogs must be on a short lead when walking in shared spaces, with waste always cleaned up promptly.
- Outdoor structures (like kennels) require prior approval, so village aesthetics and safety are preserved.
- All pets should be vaccinated and regularly treated for fleas and worms.
- Any concerns raised by neighbours are addressed with compassion and fairness.
We also ask that residents take responsibility for any accidental damage their pet may cause. This isn’t covered under our ORA, but it’s part of being a considerate community member.
Bringing Your Whole Life With You
At Qestral, we understand that choosing a retirement village isn’t just about bricks and mortar—it’s about lifestyle, connection, and continuity. And for many, that means bringing the pet who’s been part of your journey.
Our villages are designed to elevate your everyday—from early morning walks through landscaped gardens, to relaxed afternoons on your private deck, your loyal companion by your side. You’ll also enjoy a wide array of wellness and hobby programmes, beautiful architecturally designed homes, on-site cafés, movie theatres, and social lounges, as well as a rich calendar of events and excursions.
This is retirement reimagined—vibrant, luxurious, and entirely your own.
If you’re wondering whether your next move can include your pet, we’re happy to say: at Qestral, it usually can. Our approach is built on trust, fairness, and understanding—supporting you and your companion while ensuring every resident enjoys a peaceful, enriching village life.
Because home is where your heart is—and sometimes, where your paws are too.

Retirement is often seen as a time to slow down, but for many, it’s just the beginning of a more enriching, intellectually fulfilling life. Free from the nine-to-five, this new chapter offers space to explore fresh interests, pick up old passions, and finally pursue those “someday” goals. Whether it’s learning to speak Italian, joining a philosophy group, or diving into family genealogy, today’s retirees are proving that curiosity doesn’t retire.

There’s a quiet magic in tending to something that grows. For many retirees, gardening isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifeline to wellness, creativity, and connection. Whether nurturing native blooms or harvesting a basket of homegrown herbs, the act of gardening continues to bring peace and purpose well into later life.

Let’s be honest—making new friends as an adult isn’t always easy. And after 65? It can feel downright daunting. The routines are different, the social circles have shifted, and if you’ve just moved into a new place—especially a retirement village—you might find yourself wondering: Where do I even start?

Dementia. It’s one of those words that can feel heavy the moment it enters the conversation. For many families, it begins subtly—an occasional forgetful moment, a lost word, a misplaced item—and slowly, the picture sharpens into something more serious. If someone you love is starting to show signs, or has just been diagnosed, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to navigate it blind.
