The Art of Space: How Qestral Combines Beauty with Functionality
Where every detail is designed for comfort, elegance, and ease.
Retirement is a time to live boldly, breathe deeply, and embrace the freedom to live exactly how you please. But that freedom is best enjoyed in a space that feels just right—beautiful, thoughtful, and brilliantly functional. That’s where Qestral Villages truly shine.
At Qestral, design isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about creating living spaces that uplift your lifestyle, spaces that are as practical as they are picturesque, where every curve, finish, and window placement has a purpose. It’s the art of space, mastered.
Designed to Feel Like Home
Step into any Qestral home and you’ll notice the difference immediately. The spaces don’t feel like retirement units, they feel like sanctuaries.
Thanks to award-winning architect Kerry Mason (MAP Architecture), Qestral homes boast modern, non-institutional design that balances privacy, accessibility, and visual appeal. Think sun-drenched living rooms, seamless indoor-outdoor flow, and kitchens designed for both entertaining and ease.
From two- and three-bedroom independent villas to serviced apartments, each home reflects a clear design philosophy:
retirement living should feel luxurious, liberating, and entirely yours.
The Little Big Things: Smart Features That Make Life Easier
- Double glazing to keep interiors peaceful and energy-efficient
- Underfloor heating for year-round warmth without visible clutter
- Low-maintenance materials that are easy to clean and built to last
- Wide, accessible doorways and no-step entries that blend seamlessly into the home
- Thoughtful lighting that combines ambience with practicality
These design choices don’t just tick boxes, they create homes that feel good to live in. Homes that anticipate your needs before you’ve even had to think about them.
Picture-Perfect Views—From Every Angle
Many Qestral villages are nestled in prime locations: hilltops with sweeping vistas, beachfront fringes, or leafy suburban pockets. That’s no accident.
At
Coastal View in Nelson
, for example, elevated homes look out across the glittering Tasman Bay, perfect for a morning coffee on the deck. In
Christchurch’s Alpine View and Burlington villages
, leafy surroundings and proximity to Waimairi Beach bring nature to your doorstep.
Every Qestral home includes a private deck, patio, or balcony
not just for aesthetics, but to offer fresh air, sun-drenched reading spots, and a stronger connection to the landscape.
Comfort that Grows with You
One of Qestral’s standout strengths is that your home is built for both
today’s lifestyle
and
tomorrow’s needs
. Whether you’re choosing a spacious villa or a care suite, each residence is:
- Customisable , allowing for personalised layouts, finishes, and décor
- Future-proofed , with built-in safety features like emergency call systems
- Part of a continuum , meaning you’ll never need to move far if your care needs evolve
It’s a home that adapts with you, not the other way around.
Shared Spaces That Spark Connection
Beyond your front door, the village itself is a masterclass in shared living. At Qestral, communal areas are more than functional—they’re inspiring.
Boutique cinemas. Cosy libraries. Elegant cafés and wine bars. Craft rooms. Wellness centres. All designed with as much attention to flow, comfort, and charm as your own home.
Each village is peppered with artistic touches, like
sculptures, clock towers
, and inviting gardens that double as walking tracks and meeting points. It’s a setting that encourages you to connect, explore, and enjoy, at your own pace.
Retirement, Redesigned
At Qestral, we believe that
great design enhances great living
. That’s why every space, private or public, is created with an eye for beauty, a mind for functionality, and a heart for the people who call it home.
Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or a social haven, your Qestral home is a reflection of the life you’ve built and the exciting chapter ahead.
So, take a walk through our open-plan kitchens. Feel the quiet hum of underfloor heating. Watch the sun set from your deck over the garden, the hills, or the sea.
Because at Qestral, every space is designed not just to live in—but to
love
.

We’re proud to announce that Burlington won Best in Category and Excellence, for New Zealand Aged Care and Retirement Villages, for their “Pavilion” - in the 2025 New Zealand Property Council Awards at the Spark Arena in Auckland. The judges said, "Burlington Village is a vibrant community hub designed to enhance social engagement, wellbeing, and inclusivity. Inspired by Singapore's Raffles, the two-storey Pavilion village features accessible design, level entryways, and movable walls for flexible use. It has a library, a restaurant, a bakery and coffee shop, movie theatre, wellness centre and a pool all within an easy walking distance. It’s like being on a permanent, and lux, holiday!" Earlier in the year, Qestral won the prestigious 2025 Eldercare Innovation Award for its TRILife Wellness Programme at the 2025 World Ageing Festival in Singapore, - attended by more than 6,000 delegates from over 50 countries. Qestral is constantly refurbishing its model – seeking excellence in healthcare security, personal relationships and activities, and individual architecture. Retirement is often seen as a time to slow down, but for many, it’s just the beginning of a more enriching, intellectually fulfilling life. Free from the nine-to-five, this new chapter offers space to explore fresh interests, pick up old passions, and finally pursue those “someday” goals. Whether it’s learning to speak Italian, joining a philosophy group, or diving into family genealogy, today’s retirees are proving that curiosity doesn’t retire.

There’s a quiet magic in tending to something that grows. For many retirees, gardening isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifeline to wellness, creativity, and connection. Whether nurturing native blooms or harvesting a basket of homegrown herbs, the act of gardening continues to bring peace and purpose well into later life.

Let’s be honest—making new friends as an adult isn’t always easy. And after 65? It can feel downright daunting. The routines are different, the social circles have shifted, and if you’ve just moved into a new place—especially a retirement village—you might find yourself wondering: Where do I even start?

Dementia. It’s one of those words that can feel heavy the moment it enters the conversation. For many families, it begins subtly—an occasional forgetful moment, a lost word, a misplaced item—and slowly, the picture sharpens into something more serious. If someone you love is starting to show signs, or has just been diagnosed, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to navigate it blind.
